Learnings from Life of Pi and Yeh Jawani hai Deewani

Yesterday was a grand treat of movies and after a very long time had the patience to sit through 2 of them. Life of Pi Goodbye - When what is close goes there is everything else but no Goodbye. When Anandi went there was no Good bye and when Richard Parker went there was no Good bye.  God - the stories of God are unbelievable, spectacular. God stories are not trivial. The journalist started to believe when he said "I prefer the story with the Tiger and floating island". The same was true about Japanese investigators of shipwrecked company. Hope - Above all , never lose hope. Living with God is edge of seat adventure and if you give up it will be ordinary life.  Communicate - If you have to share a boat with tiger then learn to communicate in a language that is known to tigers around you. End - Its your story now, give it whatever end you want. Surrender - Don't wait for a shipwreck to surrender to the higher master, do it in good times. Why do many go away in ...

Good girl

The culture of Good Girl is ingrained from montessori or nursery into our system. I was playing with my 3 year old. She had taken a scissor and wanted to cut papers. Normally we would charge and pounce on her and take it away from her saying you will hurt yourself. This  time for some unknown reason I LET IT BE. Her sister saw and she ran away from her into another room. Her mother saw and she ran further away. She knew the scissors would be taken away from her. But they enquired and I said, she was cutting paper and they too LET IT BE. She was cutting it so well, repeating the instructions that she would have learnt at Aura Montessori. Now, cut like this. Now, Move like this. After a while she got confidence  in me that I will not snatch away her game so she called me to sit beside her. Then, she said its your turn. I went away inside. She came back and made a box like thing from paper and asked me write "Good Girl" on it. I did. She said Thank you and went ...

Work ethics from painters

The supervisor belongs to small town in Kerala. The workers are from Raichur and Davangere, small towns few hundreds of kilometers from Bangalore. They had not gone through any formal management training or personality development programs on assertiveness or communications or team building skills. They come on time. Sharp at 9:30 AM. On the first day of work they cleaned up the room, moved all heavy furniture, little items into other rooms. At the end of day, they asked "Do you need to move the items back into the room?". They bring their own lunch. They take their lunch break in the room itself. The room that is getting painted. They clean up room before work. They clean up room after work. They close work on time. Sharp at 6 PM. Yesterday, one of them came out to take the mobile phone call. The only thing they ask you is Water, the supervisor asked for tea yesterday. The supervisor does not negotiate on price, its fixed. He keeps suggesting other works th...

An evening with Michael Fischman

19th March 2012, would be remembered as the beautiful evening in the company of  +Michael Fischman  and   +Sahil Jagtiani . Sahil mesmerized us with devotional rocking music, a variant of bhajans in common parlance. Most of us simply danced and floated in the space of love created by his music. Michael presence was spellbound on all present. His meditation took us to depth and control that I did not believe existed before. I could remember following from Michael's talk, if I missed something do add in comments. Mikey, as he is fondly known as has been in Guru's grace since 1979. Yet, he is humble, approachable, a father figure, a counselor, an epitome of devotion. People just lined up to get his sign on his book " Stumbling into Infinity ", a truthful and direct account of his life that was edited more than 5 times before it was accepted and released to its first publisher. The book is an expression of his experiences with life and meditation  ...

Spirituality and relationships

Is there a link between relationships that belong to the world and spirituality that belong to the ether world? Do they complement each other or contradict each other? Once married do you feel that marriage is impediment to spiritual progress. Once born do you feel that parents and siblings are impediment to spiritual progress. Once a parent do you feel that children are impediment to spiritual progress. As a householder, in the world, how do you run the fine balance between the relationships which become part of you and the path that you choose to tread. Can one be without the other? Is relationship the path? Yesterday had the good fortune of meeting  +Michael Fischman  . Thank you  +Hariharan Mani  for organizing the same. According to Mickey (as Michael is fondly called in inner circles...) Your daughter is your spirituality. Your spouse is your spirituality. Your parents are your spirituality. Your siblings and cousins are your spirituality...

Relationship is in your mind

Who is closest to you? Do you know someone whose every breath passes you by? Do you feel every body movement of this person? Do you notice every thought that walks past itself? How much do you know your self? How close are you with your Self? What is the relationship that you share? Do you converse enough? Do you easily communicate with the self? How do you get along with self? Have you ever considered befriending the self? Is she a distant relative whom you kind of remember, there are some glimpses from memory, i dont really recall the name but I will know it when I see it type? Once you develop a deep relationship with the self, you have created the roots of all relationships that branch out from it, as the self grows and expands so do the relationships with it. The easy way to know is energy flow from your self to you. From your soul to your body and back. The pathways are within. Have you noticed any traffic within? Relationships are like painting. Every stroke of ...

Relationship is form of energy

We are sitting opposite each other. This scenario could be in office,@home,@dining table,@playground,@coffee shop or in bus/train or plane. You could be a stranger, boss, subordinate, buddy, spouse or kid. If I feel easy and comfortable, I would also notice that there is free flow of energy. If I feel nervous, threatened, I would notice energy blockage, some spasm in some part of body, mostly around heart or stomach. You would also realize that first exchange of energy is healthy/natural and second one is depleting/exhausting/unnatural. Why did the energy block occur? I formed an opinion about you. I passed a judgement on you. Something like you are fat, ugly, ill-dressed, brown colored, stunted, too thin, sarcastic, silly persistent smile. Why did I form the judgement? You could have hurt me in a similar way as someone did in past, your current behaviour might be offensive to my likes/dislikes or you could be a perceived threat to me in my future. Something like subordinate ta...

Chanting Pranayama and relationship

Chanting will divert your mind and will keep it engaged till the time you chant. You will receive positive energy that the sound brings, words like ॐ are very powerful energizer. What happens once chanting stops and you come back to the world, your कर्म क्षेत्र? प्राणायाम is also good for the physical body. It will bring peace to the body when you are doing it. The peace will be at peak in the beginning. Its a surprise to the mind, it does not like thoughts stream to slow but when it does you gain the benefits. What happens say after a week or a month? Your mind gets used to it. It starts to wonder again, forget about the day, in the morning too when you are doing body योग और प्राणायाम. Mind gets bored with routine, very easily.  Relationships go through multiple phases and essentially are of four types.  परिचय -  Lets say you want to organize a birthday party for your kid. You will have to make efforts to remember all those whom you want to invite. You will be worr...

Doctor and salesman

It was a routine checkup call for the couple. They found a chair at opposite ends with an LCD that was wall mounted on wall. They were glued to the people in the songs doing all sort of suggestive steps with beautiful scenary in the backdrop. I always wished to remove the enactors and only woonder at the natural beauty behind.  The place had more people with ties and huge leather bag full of assortments, I did not know what. He guessed they would be salesman. They kept pouring in and once in a while one of them will peep inside the half ajar doors of doctor who were supposedly treating the patients. There are more tests than treatments these days. Maybe these sales guys have something to do with that.  A senior guy of them came around and was cheering them up and suddenly get into face of one of them "Did you check him? , Did you check that doctor?". I did not hear words but they were loud in gesture.  The doctor was in OT and one of her assistant was asking all sorts of ques...

second day at school

The stomach did pain again and bu now she had learnt the art of unbuckling the belt. Fortunately the pain came up just as her father was opening the door. The mother came rushing and wanted to help but the strict father wanted her child to master the art of releasing the belt and walk the distance towards potty on her own. The child did not disappoint and fulfilled the fathers desire in aplomb. to school. They went to the car together. Poor father carrying the bag full of books and the daughter carrying the empty bag as they were hopeful that something would come back in it from school. As they were moving out of their apartment complex the father eyes turned to the side and saw a lady with more than usual broad smile. He wanted to be the good man and stopped the car. He was sliding down the side window and almost opened his mouth then he heard " Are you going to school? ". " Ofcourse, I was with my daughter in the back seat. Where else could I be heading? " The fat...

first day at school

It was first day of school. The new timing will be from 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM. A full day of school for a student going from UKG to standard I. Everything was set and normal as I neared the school. There were butterflies inside mine and I am sure my daughter's stomach too. There were few brave souls with handycam in hand. They were the brave ones who sailed through the confused parents and student lots to take a video of the dreaded morning.  Fortunately, we knew the section but not its location. To my surprise my daughter went across to a lady and pulled me along in the process. She softly asked the lady who I believed was a teached in one of her previous sections. The teacher gave directions with a hand spread out to cover half the earth. After few wrong classrooms we touched the correct section. It faced the prayer hall and had steps taking you down into the open. My daughters stomach gave in and with teary eyes she mentioned that she had to answer the big call from nature. I press...
